Cal-Earth Open House

Not a build day, the 1st Saturday of every month Cal-Earth has an open house and invites the public to tour the grounds, homes and hear a lecture and ask questions. I cannot recommend attending enough! If you want to see what superadobe is all about and get inspired! www.cal-earth.org

Here are some of the photos I took of the various structures and things of interest from the day.

A proper eyebrow has 3 brows, the 1st is on compass, the second goes out and the third goes in.

Perfect view of the stabilized earth vault ceiling, bag walls and a straw bale wall.

Beautiful bottle wall for a non weight-bearing vault end cap wall.

Reptiles. If you make cracks into the plaster, the plaster wont feel the need to crack. Side benefits include self shading, cooling walls and awesome texture.

So close to the top!

Just when you think this might go on forever....

First row of the day.

29 Palms bird

Not as easy as you think...

A view from inside, looking out to the entrance.

Looking up at the leaning arch from inside the dome.

Looking up at the leaning arch from outside the dome.

Raquel made us incredibly productive today, 4 rows!!

A look down into the main dome.

I'm a loner, Dottie, a rebel!

1 bucket at a time, all hand mixed stabilized earth!
A nice view of the leaning arch entrance and the dome rows coming in!

I know the top row of the small dome looks a little wonky but it holds the porthole in place.
A look at the porthole skylight from the outside. Yes it opens down!

Almost the last of the rows.

Plaster fixes all.

This hole is looking small now!

What part of "not a picture guy don't you understand?"

A long building day requires mama's papas for energy!

yes he is quite a catch!
